Best Week EVER! And best JOB ever

Posted by Kelly Merydith on Friday, June 3, 2011, In : Studio
Good Morning Yogis,

I finally have a few minutes to spare to write about the studio's first week. We opened Thursday and from Friday through Thursday (7 days) we've had yogis in 18 of the 22 classes offered. This is AMAZING! THANK YOU for your support and it has been so much fun meeting everyone and sharing yoga together.

On another note, I'm tired. I've taught a lot of classes this past week. But people ask me if I feel stressed, and I've never had such an unstressful week. I'm so relaxed, I ...

The Studio "before"

Posted by Kelly Merydith on Monday, May 23, 2011, In : Studio
Check out the studio before we started. Previously, it was Bulldog Crossfit.

Our lease began May 1 and we actually signed the lease that morning at 9am. We weren't worried because we have the best landlord ever - Tai Chi instructor, Paul Channic, who is probably the kindest man in the world. Who has a landlord who is a Tai Chi Instructor? It's really nice.

While my Dad and I were at the Tai Chi Center a couple of doors down my mom was at the "studio." We were only gone for about 10 minutes and...

Progress and Opening Day

Posted by Kelly Merydith on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, In : Studio
Hello!
We've been soooo busy getting the studio ready, working like dogs since May 1. The space is starting to look really beautiful. It's 2400 square ft. with tin ceilings. The building is over 100 years old! I have a ton of before and "now" pictures that I want to post soon. I will once I get a chance to rest!
We may open around Saturday May 21. I'm thinking of doing an open house with a couple of free classes. If you're not already on the email list please sign up here.
Also, if you haven't...

Q&A - I’m a beginner. What classes would be good for me to take?

Posted by Kelly Merydith on Monday, April 25, 2011, In : Q&A
Namaste,

I thought I'd answer a question that a few students have asked so far: I'm a beginner. What classes are suitable for me to take are your studio?

At the moment, all of our classes are open level. That means that beginners are welcome and encouraged. A key concept that beginners must know is to practice mindfully. That means take each posture step by step, use props, and do the beginner modifications that instructors suggest.  If something hurts, feels very uncomfortable, or you are too ...

What the heck does Ahimsa mean?!

Posted by Kelly Merydith on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, In : Yoga Education
Ahimsa (Ah HIM suh) is a sanskrit word that translates to "non-violence" or "non-harming" in thought and action. It's one of the five yamas, which are morals that yogis follow and it's a way to take yoga off the mat into daily life.

So... is this studio full of pretentious vegetarian/vegan/tree hugging/spider saving hippies? Maybe... but generally, that's not all it's about.

Ahimsa has many meanings. One is kindness in thought and deed. Kindness to everything, living or not. Couldn't we all...
